Vista and welcome to Color Wars Week (Kanata Cup Week), June 24 - 30. Check here for daily updates about what's happenning at Camp Kanata! Posts for each day will be up by 11 p.m.
Color Wars Week got off to a great start this afternoon! We packed a lot of fun into the shortened day starting with a tour of the camp and ending with a skit filled closing campfire leading into every cabin’s nightly devotion. At dinner we had delicious spaghetti and meatballs with a side of garlic bread and ice cream for dessert, a Sunday night tradition here at Camp Kanata. Monday is approaching quickly and kids are getting ready for a full night’s sleep before an action packed day tomorrow.
Monday’s are always awesome at Camp Kanata! We had a great start to our day with chapel where the administrative staff preformed a skit about caring. For breakfast we enjoyed some tasty French toast and sausage links. After breakfast everyone went back to the cabin for cabin clean-up. The winners for today were cabin 13 on the boy’s side and cabin 25 for the girl’s. The next part of our fun-filled day was activities! Campers went to their three morning activities which could include anything such as Canoeing, Archery, Cheer and Dance, or Nature. There were also plenty of times today for campers to swim with their cabin in either the lake or pool – or both! Our lunch consisted of cold cut sandwiches and chips along with our gooey chocolate chip cookies for dessert. After lunch we had Rest Period to get refueled for the remainder of the day. Next was Shoulda Woulda Coulda where campers got to pick a new activity such as Alpine, Backyard Games, Climbing Wall or Arts and Crafts. Tonight’s dinner was sweet and sour chicken with rice and some chocolate Oreo pudding. After dinner every night we have an evening program and tonight we played a camp wide dodgeball game on our color wars teams. Before bed each night every cabin has a devotion to teach character traits such as caring, honesty, or respect and to help bring the cabin closer together. We’re so excited to have another day filled with friends and fun tomorrow!
We had some liquid sunshine here at Camp Kanata, but that didn’t get in the way of having a fun filled day! Cabin 4 led an awesome chapel this morning about honesty. Their skit was about the blob and how being honest can keep us safe and having a good time. Breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, and grits. Today’s cabin clean up winners were cabin 25 for the girl’s and cabin 11 for the boys. After cabin clean up everyone went to their second day of morning activities where campers are making new friends and learning new skills. For lunch we enjoyed chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and soft sugar cookies. After our post-lunch naps at Rest Period we went to Shoulda Woulda Coulda and then Camp Store (our snack time). Up next was either Cabin Time or Swim Time in the lake or pool. We enjoyed dinner outside tonight where we roasted hot dogs and smores over the fire for Unit Night. Every unit also had their own evening program such as the Spartan and Daisy carnival! Finally, everyone ended the day with devotion as a unit and went to bed. It was a great day and we can’t wait for the rest of our amazing week!
We woke up this morning to the sound of reveille and started off our day! We went to chapel to learn about respect from cabin 18 and then went to breakfast. We enjoyed eggs, sausage, and biscuits. After, it was time for cabin clean up and the winners were cabin 24 for the boy’s and cabin 2 for the girl’s. Next we were off to activities for another fun day of Basketball, Canoeing, Awesome Class, and more! For lunch we had pizza and delicious chocolate chip cookies. After Rest Period, we had Shoulda Woulda Coulda and Camp Store. For dinner we had taco night with hard shell tacos and a variety of toppings. Our evening program tonight was a lip synch battle with our color teams and the purple team won with their awesome dance moves! We had a great day and we can’t believe tomorrow is already Thursday.
Everyone loves Thursdays at Camp Kanata because who doesn’t love the dance?! Before we could see everybody’s favorite move we had to go through our day. We were treated to a great chapel this morning from Cabin 15 talking about responsibility. After waking up Gertrude, the little old lady that lives across the lake, the Lower Lake boys sent us to breakfast where we enjoyed sausage, eggs, and bagels with cream cheese. After a thorough cabin cleanup everybody went to their activities. We all worked up an appetite at our activities so back to the dining hall we went for lunch. We had chicken nuggets, corn, and delicious M&M cookies leading up to the reveal of the cabin cleanup. We had a tie on both sides today with 25 and 1 on the girl’s side and 21 and 11 on the boy’s side taking the cake. Everyone enjoyed an extended rest period today before heading out for Shoulda Woulda Coulda and General Swim. There was some extra buzz in the dining hall this evening while we dug into some loaded baked potatoes and broccoli because everyone was so excited for the dance. After having rice krispie treats for dessert, all the campers went back to their units to get ready. Everyone showed off their best moves as we danced yet another perfect night away. The kids returned to their cabins for devotion before heading to bed to get a good night’s sleep. Nobody can wait to see what Friday holds!
Yet another fantastic Friday has passed and it never gets easier to say goodbye to our camp families. The Angles from Cabin 16 got our day started this morning by leading a chapel highlighting the importance of having Faith in God and yourself. We had bacon, eggs, and biscuits with jam for breakfast before getting to our morning activities. Friday activities are always special with performances like Cheer and Dance or Ad Staff Challenges that show off what campers have been learning all week. After activities many units practiced their skit in preparation for closing campfire. At lunch we ate mac n’ cheese triangles and corndogs with some delicious, fresh strawberries and blueberries as well. At lunch it was announced that Cabin 9 and 1 won the daily Cabin Cleanup. But, 25 won for the week on the girls side with 11 and 13 tying on the guys side. Everyone enjoyed a well deserved Rest Period before Shoulda Woulda Coulda where the Kanata Cup finals were played! The game was a nail-biter the whole time staying 0-0 until after an overtime period. Penalty kicks were needed to declare the Grey Grass Destroyers the winners in the end but it was clear that everyone enjoyed the hard fought match. Splashing around in the lake or the pool during General Swim got everyone in the mood for a big dinner and the lasagna and garlic bread did not disappoint. Dinner was finished off with some warm brownies before we got into our cheer off. Closing campfire was great with the Butterflies winning their second skit in a row! We filled the night with happy memories before heading up to our cabins for devotion. We cannot wait to see everyone again and until next time...
