Stars & Stripes Week: June 30-July 6

Opening day:

We had an awesome check-in this afternoon! Our staff was super excited to meet their campers for Stars and Stripes Week 2019. For dinner we had spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread. Our Evening Program, an Opening Campfire, was a great introduction to the week complete with funny skits and silly songs. Many campers are signed up and looking forward to our Kanata Cup, a soccer tournament styled similar to the World Cup. We are all looking forward to a great first full day tomorrow!

Monday:

Mondays are way more fun at Camp! Our campers had a blast getting started in their activities for Stars & Stripes Week. For breakfast we had hawaiian rolls, scrambled eggs, and sausage patties.  Lunch was chicken and waffles. We had perfect weather to make for an awesome day, whether it was at the lake or the pool our campers had a great time keeping cool. After a taco dinner, we had “Kanata Fourth of July Week Kickback” as our Evening Program. Campers and Staff joined together to play games of dodgeball, get their face painted, and even just dance around to music. It’s going to be a fantastic rest of the week!

Tuesday:

Today was a great day! We started out our morning with yummy cinnamon rolls and sausage links. Campers headed to their activities with their water bottles in hand and “fast-go-get-ems” (sneakers) on their feet. We spent a lot of time at the lake today, making sure to try out all of the attractions it has to offer. For lunch we had chicken sandwiches and waffle fries. Tuesdays are Unit Nights at Camp Kanata and each Unit got together to roast hot dogs, s’mores and do a fun Unit-wide activity and devotion. We can’t wait for another awesome day tomorrow!

Wednesday:

We had another fantastic day! For breakfast we had toast, scrambled eggs, and bacon. Lunch was cold cut subs with chips and banana pudding. It was another bright day and our campers had a blast with some extra time in the lake and pool. Dinner was baked chicken, corn, green beans and hawaiin rolls. Our Evening Program, the weekly Dance was awesome! Everyone really enjoyed dressing up in their best stars and stripes gear and dancing the night away. We’re so excited for the 4th of July festivities tomorrow!

Thursday:

There’s no better place to celebrate the Fourth of July than at Camp Kanata! We started our day with a breakfast of pancakes. For lunch we had philly cheesesteak sandwiches. In the afternoon we had the first annual Fourth of July Parade right in the middle of Camp! Campers got to help make signs and decorate camp vehicles for the special event. For dinner we had a baked potato bar with assorted toppings. For our Evening Program we had a Talent Show. Campers had a great time performing their many talents and showcasing their skills. We’re looking forward to another awesome day tomorrow!

Friday:

Our campers made the most of their last full day together with lots of camp spirit and energy. Breakfast was biscuits, sausage, and scrambled eggs. Many campers finished up challenges in their activities today to achieve impressive ranks. For lunch we had mac and cheese triangles and corn dogs. The Kanata Cup soccer championship game was held today during Shoulda Woulda Coulda with team Pink Reign coming out on top! Everyone enjoyed fresh watermelon during the game and cheered on their fellow campers. After a dinner of meatball subs, we headed down to the amphitheater for our Closing Campfire. We watched creative skits, sang songs, and said goodnight to our friends after more fireworks to end our last night together. We are thrilled to have spent this time as a Kanata family and will remember the memories we made this week forever.
