We had a great day meeting new campers and their families! Everyone moved into their cabins and got ready for an awesome week. As everyone was getting settled cabins played name games and got to know one another. Then it was time for swim assessments and cabin photos! For dinner we enjoyed spaghetti and meatballs with garlic bread and ice cream for dessert. After dinner we had a cheer off with the boys v girls where we showed off our camp spirit! After dinner each night we have an evening program and tonight we had an opening campfire. At our opening campfire we learned about camp and watched counselors perform silly skits. To end every night at camp each cabin does a devotion that teaches YMCA character traits and helps the cabin grow closer together. Our first day was filled with a lot of excitement but everyone is really looking forward to the first full day tomorrow!
We had a fun filled first day of camp! We started the morning at chapel with Ad Staff performing a skit about caring and how superheroes can be everyday people. Next was a delicious breakfast of eggs, bacon, and warm delicious biscuits. After breakfast we have cabin clean up each morning and today’s winners were Cabin 21 and 28. Then it was time for activities where campers got to try new things and make new friends. After activities it was time for Cabin Time where everyone did an activity or got to swim in the lake or pool. Our morning was action packed so everyone was hungry for lunch. We enjoyed pizza, applesauce, and our gooey chocolate chip cookies. After lunch everyone’s bellies were full so we headed to Rest Period in order to refuel for the day. Next was Shoulda Woulda Coulda where campers got to pick any activity to do and then it was Camp Store (or snack time). The next exciting part of the day was another Cabin Time or Swim Time. After we were ready for dinner, which was tangy pulled pork sandwiches and tasty brownies. Tonight our evening program was “Heroes vs Villains”, which was a camp wide game of tag. The game was filled with energy and the black team was the final winner! To end the day all the cabins had devotion and then some flashlight time before it was time for bed. We can’t wait to wake up to another lively day of camp tomorrow!
Today was filled with new friends, fun activities, and tasty s’mores! The day started with chapel from Cabin 14. They performed a skit about the superheros truth man and liar man to teach the importance of honesty. For breakfast we ate cinnamon rolls, orange slices, and bacon to help us start the morning off right. Our cabin clean up winners of the day were Cabin 18 and 21. All of the cabins are competing to be the cleanest in order to win Kona Ice on Friday! After breakfast and cabin clean up it was time for activities where everyone continued to build their skills and make new relationships. Lunch was a hit where we had chicken alfredo and warm rolls along with sweet oatmeal raisin cookies for dessert. Everyone was ready for some chill time at Rest Period after lunch. Then it was time for Shoulda Woulda Coulda, Camp Store, and Cabin Time/Swim Time. After our busy afternoon it was time for Unit Night! At Unit Night we get to roast hot dogs and marshmallows over a fire for dinner. It’s a great time to grow closer to our cabin and our units as a whole. Evening programs are also done in the unit and some combine together. All of the girls decided to do a vibrant “paint fight” where everyone threw paint one one another. The day ended as usual with a unit wide devotion and then everyone was off to bed. The week is flying by but we’re looking forward to the rest of our exciting week of camp!
We just finished up another great day here at Camp Kanata! The day got started with Cabin 5 doing a nice skit about respect this morning at chapel. They sent us to breakfast where we ate delicious french toast, sausage and eggs. We all had fun at our activities and with only two more days, everybody that is trying to earn a rank is working really hard. After activities we had cabin time. This is time where cabins hang out and bond. Some cabins will challenge others to games or go on a scavenger hunt! At 1:15 the lunch bell rang and we filled our stomachs with chicken sandwiches, waffle fries and amazing M&M cookies for dessert. At the end of lunch we learned that Cabins 1 and 22 had the cleanest cabins today. After Rest Period we headed back out for Shoulda-Woulda-Coulda. We then took a dip in either the pool or lake for General Swim and then we were ready for dinner. We had lasagna, garlic bread and broccoli for dinner and then strawberry cheesecake for dessert! Evening Program was awesome tonight because we got inflatables! We all bounced around to our hearts content until it was time to have our nightly cabin devotion. It was a great day and we can’t wait to see what is in store for us tomorrow!
Thursday’s are always great at Camp Kanata because who doesn’t love the dance and everything that comes with it? First things first though, we started our morning with Chapel. Cabin 13 got the day started with a great skit on responsibility before sending everyone up to breakfast. We ate bacon and egg biscuits until it was time to head back for cabin cleanup. Leaving our cabins spotless, we went to our activities with excited smiles on our faces. After activities we had Cabin Time and then went back to the dining hall for lunch. We enjoyed cold cut sandwiches and the delicious salad bar until the sugar cookies were brought out. We learned that Cabin 28 on the girls side and Cabin 11 on the boys side won cabin cleanup today right before learning that we were also going to have extended rest period! Everyone enjoyed a little extra rest and then we were back at it with Shoulda-Woulda-Coulda. General Swim cooled everyone off before eating chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes and green beans for dinner. We had rice krispie treats for dessert before it was confirmed that we were going to have the dance tonight! We filed out of the dining hall to go get ready and then we met in the gym. We danced as much as we could before heading back to the cabins for our nightly devotions. With only one day of Superhero week left, we can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.
Another week has come and gone and we cannot believe that that it is already time to go home tomorrow! We started off the day just like the rest, with Chapel from Cabin 17. The girls from the Angels talked to us about faith and how important it is to believe in God and your friends. After Chapel we went to breakfast and ate bagels with cream cheese, eggs and sausage. We all had so much fun at our activities after making sure our cabins were extra clean because today was the last day to win cabin cleanup! We all had a blast at our morning Cabin Time before going to the dining hall for lunch. Cheeseburgers and fries were on the menu today with gooey chocolate chip cookies for dessert. At the end of lunch it was announced that Cabin 3 won the daily cabin cleanup and Cabin 28 won the week on the girls side, and there was a four way tie for the daily winner on the boys side between 21, 22, 11, 13 and Cabin 21 got the win for the week. After lunch everyone got a nice long rest period in before we were back at it with Shoulda-Woulda-Coulda. The Brown Furies won the 2018 Kanata Bowl this week during Shoulda-Woulda-Coulda in highly contested game that would need overtime to find a winner. After we settled down from the game we rushed to Camp Store and enjoyed an ice cream treat and some water. A swim in the pool or the lake cooled us off and we were ready to meet at the flagpole for dinner. We had chicken fajitas for dinner tonight and we were joined by some Camp Kanata Alumni! Our guests stayed through Closing Campfire where it was decided that the Rangers had the best skit. Another amazing week at Camp Kanata is in the books and until next time...
