Packing for Camp
The age-old question: what do I pack so my child can have everything they need while at Camp Kanata? We've got you covered! Our packing lists are meant to be a guide so your child will be successful while at Camp, but you know your camper the best. So, pack accordingly to ensure they have the best time while at Kanata. We suggest packing your items in a suitcase, trunk, plastic drawers or plastic tub.

Technology
Camp is technology free! So that means no phones, smart watches, tablets, music players, gaming devices or any other device that has internet access.

Equipment
Camp provides all equipment for activities. If your camper chooses to bring their own equipment (lacrosse sticks, fishing poles, tackle boxes, etc.), it must be labeled and the camper is responsible for it.

Items for Warm Weather
The beauty of Camp is that campers get to spend almost all day outside! So make sure to pack the sunscreen and bug spray. And don't forget a reusable water bottles either! A portable fan and cooling towel are also good items to have in the warm weather.
Camper Essentials
It is very important to us that every child attending Camp has all of the items they need to be successful while on site. We recognize expenses go beyond registration for Camp, and we want to help alleviate any barriers that might put financial strain on families with our Camper Essentials program. Through this program, you have the opportuntity to request a bundle and it will be placed on your camper's bed for check-in. The following items will be on your campers bunk during check in day, and can be brought home with you after camp. A Camper Essential Bundle Includes: 2 Shower Towels, 2 Beach Towels, Set of sheets, pillow case, and blanket, toothbrush and toothpaste, sunscreen, bodywash, loofa, shampoo, conditioner, shower caddie, and a laundry bag. You will need to provide your own pillow and hair brush.
Care Package Agreement
At Camp, we focus on creating a positive and unique experience for all campers. Due to the unique nature of the open-air cabin environment and the limited space available, keeping cabins tidy and free of food is important for the health and safety of all.
To prioritize fairness and equity in our community, we recommend adhering to the guidelines of the packing list and sending your camper with all the items they need to have a successful session.
Withholding from mailing additional items allows for a fun, positive and equitable experience for all campers.
Starting in the Summer of 2025, YMCA Overnight Summer Camps will be adhering to the following Care Package Agreement:
We ask that campers follow the packing list provided by Camp, only bringing items listed.
If an item is needed by a camper while at Camp, a parent/guardian is asked to contact the Camp Office regarding approval and to obtain instructions for shipping or dropping off necessary items.
To ensure all contents adhere to the agreement, all packages will be opened by Camp Personnel before being delivered to campers.
Packages containing items that have not obtained prior approval, or are not on the packing list, will be returned to the sender at the expense of the parent/guardian at Camp’s discretion.
Letter mail is accepted and encouraged.
